Everyday it seems like a social network is launched, thousands of apps are released, and a new type of workout is spreading across the country. In the parks and recreation world, it’s important to keep up with the changes so that you can offer the best programs and services for your constituents. As a P&R pro, check out the seven resources listed below in order to stay on top of news, trends, and tips within the industry. (If you already subscribe to most of these, use this article as a way to keep your resources organized):
1. Parks & Recreation Magazine
NRPA’s publication has helped park professionals serve the public for 50 years by providing key issues, trends, and advice about American parks, recreation, and conservation.
Recreation Management “provides ideas and solutions for recreation, sports, and fitness facility managers.” From an online magazine to a recreation blog, news, and buyers guides, this is a great place to keep up with changes in the industry.
This magazine is known as “the leading resource for athletic, fitness, and recreation professionals.” With digital issues, forum discussions and a buyer’s guide, this resource keeps up with new ideas and answers questions for recreation professionals.
4. Parks and Recreation Professionals
Created in 2008, this LinkedIn group has over 6000 members. Great discussions take place about everything from marketing and technology to safety and program ideas. This is a great place to talk to other people who are in the same position.
Jodi Rudick, Brand Manager at California Parks and Recreation Society and group owner of #4 above, shares ideas and tips on her blog. Recently, Jodi has discussed sponsorships, POP marketing, and apps for 2012.
The National Recreation and Park Association has a LinkedIn group with over 5,000 members. You probably know about all of the great advice, events, and programs that NRPA offers, but this group adds another element to that. I recommend joining this group because you get additional resources and threads posted by members.
