Manhattan Beach is a coastal city in Southern California with about 35,000 citizens. The Parks and Recreation department recently switched from a client-based solution (Class®) to a web-based software system (ActiveNet™). Here are some details about the department:
- 12 full-time employees (plus part-time employees)
- 3 community centers
- 200 – 600 activities per season
- Swimming, fitness, cultural arts, sports leagues, special events and more run through the P&R department
After implementing the new system and a full week of training (3 days on-site/2 days remote), Manhattan Beach P&R was ready to go live. With ActiveNet in place, the department now sells merchandise and handles facility reservations online, and instructors can log in to the system from any computer with the internet. For security, teens now have membership cards to scan in and out so that staff members can see who’s at the facilities at all times.
From a reporting standpoint, Manhattan Beach uses registration comparison reports, marketing survey results, facility usage reports, GL revenue reports and more to understand how well it is operating. From there, Manhattan Beach has been able to change their marketing from email to social and even print:
“We send a weekly newsletter, use text messaging, and send eblasts as well as individual activity emails all though ActiveNet,” said Gina Allen, Recreation Manager. “We don’t have to bother with Outlook or any other second-party software. This also includes printing labels; it’s a one-stop shop. Also, their eMarketing Center includes a tool to create custom web buttons for use on our city website to make it easier for customers to register online.”
These new marketing initiatives have increased online registrations by 10% making it easier for customers to register and allowing staff to save time. With marketing and operations all in one place accessible through the internet, staff and customers have benefited.
